For over 28 years we have been known for our great food. We purchase the best ingredients and change our menu regularly to reflect the change of seasons and the availability of different ingredients. Whenever possible we try to use seasonal, locally grown ingredients. We proudly serve cheeses made at Cato corner farm in Colchester, ice cream from Buck’s of Milford, produce from Schultz Farm in Hamden and Gresczyk Farms in New Hartford; beef, pork and veal from Eagle Wood Farm in Barkhamstead are a few of the locally procured items we feature every day. We are located in the Upper State Street area of New Haven and are known for our great food, great drink and great people.

“On the Surface”

Monotypes from Ox-bowThe lagoon at Ox-bow, the Art Institute of Chicago’s summer home on Lake Michigan, was my muse for this body of work.  Visiting it has become a rite of summer. As soon as I arrive, the water pulls me to its edge to pay it homage.  For a long while I sit and watch the surface, and let the sound of its  lapping  hush me and course through me.In this series, I draw loose grid lines which are sometimes sharp or which sometimes fade into the watery surfaces…. which, in turn, are sometimes smooth as glass and sometimes rippled  or roiled. They are layer upon inky layer… of translucent color, or the neutrality of grays and the sun-dappled white of surrender.

As I created my own surfaces from the memory of the hushed lapping or  glassy silence, I thought how we so take Water for granted….and that we are all drowning in the absurdity that we pollute with impunity what is so essential to our survival.  Even though it storms and rails against us, it’s purity is at our mercy.  Below the alluring surface and under the grid, all is awry.

We hope to make Christmas a little brighter for needy children in the New Haven area by giving them not only a toy, but the message of love from friends and neighbors they have never met.  Over the years, our race has given over 50,000 toys to children.
